When you travel, fraud restrictions may keep you from using your regular debit card, or you may be uncomfortable using your checking debit card at your location.
A pre-paid Visa card gives you secure access to your money, without exposing your main checking account or credit card to possible fraud or theft during your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should I buy a Prepaid Visa Card?
We find our members use them for a variety of reasons. Travel is a primary reason, both for themselves, or to provide easy access to limited funds for a child on a school trip. Members also use the cards if they are extensive online shoppers, to separate their online shopping from their regular checking account, and to protect themselves from fraud.
-
How do I activate my Prepaid card?
You must visit the website in the “Getting Started” portion of your Prepaid Card book. Follow the instructions in the booklet to activate your card.
-
Is this a Spirit of Alaska product? Who do I call if I have an issue with my prepaid card?
We cannot help you manage your prepaid card. You must familiarize yourself with the website and pricing schedule. We make no guarantees on the quality of service you will receive from VISA. You must contact VISA for issues with your prepaid card. We sell the cards, but do not service them and cannot reverse fees or make changes on the card. Please review your VISA Prepaid Card book for information on fees, terms and conditions.
-
Why do you recommend the cards for traveling?
Primarily, because members can avoid fraud restrictions on debit card transactions while traveling. These restrictions are in place to protect your checking account from being accessed in places where fraud is happening.
-
Are there any limits?
Yes. You can only load up to $2000 on the card, to prevent money laundering activities. Also, the card can only be loaded 20 times, and will be deactivated afterwards.
