Blocked Vendors and Areas
Here at Spirit of Alaska Federal Credit Union, we take your financial security seriously, which is why we monitor fraud activity coming into the credit union very closely.
We respond promptly to a fraud threat, and block transactions occurring through problem vendors and in affected areas. Such action protects the credit union, our members, and limits damages from fraud.
Transaction Restrictions
Every country outside the U.S. and Canada has all transactions restricted.
The Continental US and Hawaii:
- NO non-chip or non-keyed card transactions at Target or Walmart
Canada:
- NO non-chip or non-keyed card transactions at Target or Walmart
Please be aware these blocks also include websites maintained/operated out of the mentioned locations below, so it is possible to have declined transactions on your Spirit of Alaska debit or credit card while shopping online. Many commonly used vendors have been added as exceptions. Thank you for your patience as we seek to reduce fraudulent transactions here at the credit union.

How can I prevent my card from being blocked while I'm traveling?
Notify Us When You’re Traveling So Your Card Doesn’t Get Blocked
It’s important to notify us whenever you’re traveling. This prevents your card from being accidentally blocked, and ensures you can use it uninterrupted throughout your trip. Please provide a valid travel phone number for us to contact you in case we or VISA need to verify a purchase on your card that may look suspicious due to your new location.
How to Notify Us About Your Travel Plans
To notify us of your travel plans, you can:
- Visit a branch
- Call us at (907) 459-5900
- Message us through e-Teller. E-Teller verifies your identity at log in, so it is a secure channel to communicate.
- Click Messages on the upper right after you login.
- Specify your travel details in the message.
- Our Call Center will then contact you about your travel, and arrange any necessary exceptions to fraud restrictions in your itinerary, and explain any ATM restrictions you might encounter.
