EMV is a global standard for cards equipped with computer chips and the technology used to authenticate chip-card transactions. In the wake of numerous large-scale data breaches and increasing rates of counterfeit card fraud, you can feel financially safe knowing your debit card information is more secure when used during chip-read transactions.
Reduce your chances of fraud by using your card with merchants who have enabled chip reader devices. Swiping your card leaves you vulnerable as the card information embedded in the magnetic stripe is not encrypted.

Falcon Fraud Protection – 24/7 your card activity is being monitored for suspicious activity to protect your funds. If activity looks suspicious, Falcon – Visa’s fraud department automated call system – will call you to confirm recent activity. Falcon Fraud will never ask you to provide your card number, pin number or bank account number.
Instant Issue = No Waiting
There’s no waiting for your card to arrive in the mail here at Spirit of Alaska. We issue your card immediately after you are done opening your checking account! Our cards are unembossed (no raised numbers), which allows us to offer this great convenience to our members.
Along with Instant Issue, you can customize your card with a personal image.

What are instant issue cards?
Instant Issue cards are cards that are created at the branch. You don’t have to wait for your card to come in the mail! These cards can be customized with a picture from the credit union catalogue or customized with your own picture (upon pre-approval). Instant Issue Cards are un-embossed, meaning they have no raised letters.

How do I activate my card?
Prior to using your card, you must call 866-875-6807 to activate it. The call must come from within the U.S. If you have questions, please contact member services at (907) 459-5900 during Spirit of Alaska business hours.

When does my debit card start working?
If you recieve your card at one of our Spirit of Alaska FCU branches, the card will work the next business day (this does not include Sundays or holidays) after 9 AM.
If you get your card in the mail, the card will work once you call the number on the face of the card to activate it.

What do I do if I lose a card?
Call the call center during business hours at (907) 459-5900. Business hours are from 10-6 M-F; 10-4 Sat. After hours, call 1-866-875-6807

How long do transactions take to clear my account?
It really depends on the merchant. Some merchants clear the transaction within hours of the purchase, some can take 3-5 days.

You can view your debit card transaction holds through e-Teller.
- Log in to your secure e-Teller.
